About the NZFAA
=================
The NZFAA organises Field Archery on behalf of Field Clubs throughout New Zealand. The most visible part of this is by organising national leagues and championships for both Field and Bow Hunter 3D disciplines.

Through international affiliations the NZFAA is able to offer the opportunity for archers to qualify and take part in both Pacific Regional and International events.

The Sport of Archery
====================
The art of shooting a bow and arrow is thousands of years old and Archery is regarded as the world's oldest sport. One of the first recorded tournaments dates back to 1673.

The adventures of Robin Hood and native Americans live on, stirring the imagination of shooting bow and arrow with skill and accuracy. The fascination of mastering such a weapon is still the basis of archery today. Modern materials and equipment have made bows easier to shoot but a high degree of skill and technique must still be developed.

Archery has evolved into three main forms, Target, Field and Bow Hunter 3D. Each offers a different challenge and appeal to people from wide sporting interests.

Today there is a growing involvement in Field and Bow Hunter 3D archery as this offers a wider range of activities and enjoyment within the disciplines of the sport.

Who can take up Archery?
========================
Simply anyone! Archery does not require great strength or extreme physical fitness. Modern archery equipment means anyone from about 8 to 85 years of age can easily take up and enjoy the sport. Shooting a bow is not difficult and the basics are easily mastered.

About Field Archery
===================
There are two types of shooting disciplines within Field Archery. Both of these are shot on courses laid out in fields or the bush and involve walking from target to target in much the same way as a round of golf.

The first type is known as I.F.A.A., which is an internationally recognized association. I.F.A.A. Field events are generally shot at round targets laid out at various distances and varying styles. The I.F.A.A. rounds are usually shot over known distances and are more disciplined than the Bow Hunter rounds.

Bow Hunter 3D is shot at animal targets, these being either painted on mats or made in a 3D form out of a special foam. The Bow Hunter 3D events are growing in popularity and appeal to family members of all ages.
