Description

Formed in 1876 and affiliated to New Zealand Cricket in 1894, the Otago Cricket Association has played an integral role in the province's proud sporting tradition.

These days, Otago is one of New Zealand's six Major Associations. The Districts that make up the Otago Association are

* North Otago
* Dunedin Metropolitan
* Central Otago
* Southland

Otago Cricket has provided a structure enabling thousands of youngsters, men and women, to participate in the sport.
Otago Cricket currently has around 10,000 people involved in cricket either as a player, administator, coach or an official, and the numbers are still growing.

As a major association Otago Cricket is responsible for the promotion and development of cricket within the region. Our obligations include:
The fielding of representative cricket teams, the organisation and implementation of coaching and development, winter coaching squads at the High Performance Centre in Dunedin, Milo Kiwi Cricket and Milo Have A Go programmes throughout the Region

Otago Cricket has developed a strategic plan, which is in line with the New Zealand Cricket Strategic Plan. These plans show strong values and strategies to develop cricket in the region. Integrity, teamwork, Professionalism, the spirit of cricket and participation are all key values in Otago Cricket.

Over the past six years Otago Cricket like many other businesses and sporting organisations has had to reorganise and restructure the organisation to ensure a future.

Major new initiatives have been completed.

These include:

The High Performance Centre in Dunedin, in which facilities have been set up for coaching, with a meeting room, full bowler run ups and up to date technology for advanced coaching clinics.

The Queenstown Events Centre has been upgraded into an International facility for both first class domestic cricket as well as One-Day Internationals. Queenstown has now hosted a number of One-Day Internationals with great success giving the Otago region another proven International cricket facility.

The University Oval in Dunedin has been redeveloped to become a first class venue and we will also promote to NZC as an International test match venue. It is the home of Otago Cricket. The re-development of the grandstand and offices completed in late 2004.

Otago cricket has laid the foundation with these excellent facilities, which will give thousands of children across our entire region from the Waitaki to Bluff the opportunity to take advantage of what the game of cricket in Otago and Southland has to offer.
