Description

Metro FC was originally named Tabernacle-Metropolitan Club by its founder, the Baptist Church, the club, established in 1899 is the second oldest in NZ (it was founded in the same year as AC Milan, a team which ironically, also wears the same black/red striped shirt), the oldest club in NZ being North Shore United formed in 1897.

Metro FC has been based at Phyllis St Reserve, in Mount Albert, since 1950. The clubs hope at the time was  "that the association would prove useful to youths in the area", this has proved to be the making of the club. The club celebrated its centenary in 1999, a very proud moment for such a historic club in NZ, with the clubs success being attributed not only to the senior teams over the last 111 years but also the junior/youth players and their parents who are "the backbone, the key factor that has helped the club through the good times and bad since 1999".
