Aikido Lynch Dojo Club Profile

Browse / Clubs / Martial Arts Clubs / Aikido Lynch Dojo

The Aikido Lynch Dojo is independent of any international or national organisation. The hierarchical system of grading is de-emphasised, and priority is given to a non-competitive, creative atmosphere with equal respect accorded to all students.

The Dojo:
The dojo was established in 1988 after David & Hisae Lynch returned from 15 years in Japan and built a Japanese-designed dojo behind their house in Epsom. A Japanese garden was later created to provide the perfect atmosphere in which to learn.

However, ten years later, the Lynches sold their property and the dojo was demolished to make room for the new owner's house.

Classes moved to the Parnell Community Centre for the next couple of years until, in August 2000, the present premises in Grey Lynn were leased and a full schedule of daily classes was resumed.

After several working-bees to refurbish and erect signage and so on, the dojo was officially opened on 21 March 2001.

Having moved out of Auckland, David Lynch now attends the dojo periodically as well as conducting special weekend courses and private lessons, while the normal daily classes are in the competent hands of his deputy instructors.
